“James and John get their mother to try to get them the number 1 and 2 places in the Kingdom. And the other disciples don’t say ‘You know I don’t think that is Jesus way.’ They are just mad that James and John beat them to it! They are all fighting for the top. But Jesus is remarkably gentle through the whole thing. The disciples are functionally epicureans—hunting for the shortcut across the 'J' of the J-Curve. That’s our natural desire."
