Personal Connection

There is great value in using the Person of Jesus course for discipleship before taking others through it. It allows you to get comfortable with the content and with how to teach it. Furthermore, it allows time for it to seep into your life and begin to make you more like Jesus. "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13:35). Then, when you go out to invite non-Christians you can say with integrity, "This has helped me love my husband or wife more. I think youÕd really enjoy it."

Here are some ways of teaching or learning the material yourself.

Sunday School

Form a Sunday School class that goes through the material. Announce from the beginning that the material will be used to reach non-Christians. You can encourage the class to love non-Christians, develop relationships with them, and pray for them with the intent to reach out and form courses in the evening with them. (If evening courses begin, whoever is teaching the group would start over with the material from the beginning.)

Small Group

Teach the material to your small group with the goal of the group first absorbing the material, applying it to their lives, taking the time to pray for non-Christians, and at the end of that time forming a new study with all or part of the group.

Multiple Small Groups

In some ways, this is the most exciting way of using the material because all of the small groups in the church go through the material at the same time. There is a lot of symbiotic energy that comes from a whole church being immersed in the same section of the Word of God. Then as they are going through the material they can be praying for and cultivating relationships with non-Christians.

Women's Bible Study

Women in particular seem to be drawn to the person of Jesus. A woman's Bible study is an ideal place to go through the material first with other Christians while you are praying for and developing relationships with non-Christians.

How to Use the Study

As with using the study for evangelism, you can attend a Saturday Seminar where you see the material taught. Do It Yourself

You may simply order a Person of Jesus Manual and read through it on your own. Even as a self-study, you should be enriched by it. However, it is highly recommended that you receive some counsel from others who have already been through the study if you desire to teach it to non-Christians.
