Ana, this is exacly what The salvation Army has preached and lived out in it's ministry not only in africa but around the world. For over 100 years the message has always been that the physical problem is Spiritualy rooted.

I pray that as Christianity becomes more and more secular, that true committed Christians will seek out our Army and reiforce us. Lord knows we need the help.

Maybe you would like to be a part of "Christianity with it's sleeves rolled up"?

May God bless you and the ones you love.

I guess this gives a new interesting perspective to the debate regarding missions that those who go to just share the Good News are not completely “helping” the ones in need because they are not catering their physical and material needs. Not that I think that that should be the only and whole platform of a missionary. After all, the writer was impressed and noticed the missionaries because of their work regarding meeting the physical and material needs of the poor. But it was interesting to get from the reading that just meeting the individuals physical and material needs should not either be the only and whole platform of any organization looking to serve Africa. He places getting a meal or a pair of shoes as the secondary need of Africans. While introducing the idea that what Africa truly needs is a new belief and values system and that is what missionaries are bringing in. This article and the ideas presented in it should allow missionaries to feel very proud of their work and their long-lasting impact in society.
